We made Bagels from scratch!

We did it! We made home made bagels. and they turned out great, even though I found that I ran out of propane in the middle of them rising, but a good friend had some extra so that I could finish. Thank you Rhonda!

So I thought I would share with you how you to can do this your self!

First you will need:

4 1/4 to 4 3/4 cups all purpose flour

1 package active dry yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon salt

Combine 2 cups of the flour and the yeast. Add warm water, 3 tablespoons of the sugar add 1 teaspoon of salt. Beat with electric mixer on low for 30 sec ( or in my case by hand because I don't have a mixer yet) scraping bowl constantly. Bat on high speed for 3 min. using a spoon , stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can.
Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead in enough remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic (6 to 8 min total). Cover and let rest 10 min.

working quickly, divide dough into twelve portions. shape each portion into a smooth ball, put a hole in the center of the ball with a floured finger, pull dough gently to make about a 2 inch hole, keeping bagel uniformly shaped. place on greased pan for about 20 min covered to rise. start timing after first bagel is shaped!

Then broil bagels about 5 inches from the heat for 3 to 4 min, tuning only once(top should not brown).
Meanwhile, in a skillet or dutch oven bring 6 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of sugar to a boil. Reduce heat and then simmer the bagels you just broiled. 4 or 5 at a time, for about 7 min, turning only once. Drain on a paper towel, place the drained bagels on a well greased baking sheet.
bake in oven at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 min or until tops are golden brown!
ad there you have it BAGELS! these are not as sweet as the store bought ones but they are so good. my husband and kids loved them. We are going to try to add raisins and cinnamon, and also chocolate chips to some of our other batches! One batch makes 12 yummy bagels
Enjoy!

Fun with making food!

My friend sent this to me in an e mail and I thought it looked fun and was kinda funny! I haven't tried it yet but I think I am going to have to! My kids love to make eggs for breakfast this would be great and fun for them! Hope you enjoy it and when we try it here in our home I will be sure to let you know how it turns out!

Ziploc Omelets This works great!!! Good for when you're alone or when all your family is together. The best feature is that no one has to wait for their special omelet. Have the guests write their name on a?Quart Size Ziploc Freezer Bag with a permanent marker.1. Crack 2 eggs into the quart size Ziploc bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.2. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: Cheeses, Ham, Onions, Green Peppers, Tomatoes, Hash Browns, Salsa, Etc.3. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake the bag to mix them well.?4. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
5. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for?exactly 13 minutes.?You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. If you have more omelets, make another pot of boiling water.?6. Cut the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

7. Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and it becomes a great conversation piece.?

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in just 13 minutes you have a nice omelet for a quick breakfast!
Thanks Jen for the great E mail!

The Great Picture Request!

I do not like taking pics of myself mainly because they never make me look good or even how i think i look. But for the sake of fun with my friend and the blogs I am posting a couple pics.
We love going to the beach! we try to go once a week if not more! So here is a picture of My hubby Wayne, Myself and Coral, Coral makes a great cover up for not having much in the way of clothing on! :)

The next two pictures are of Coral and I reading a book together before bed. This one is in the dark with a flashlight for fun!
And this one is with the light on for a better picture. Coral loves to have a book read to her every night if possible. She is a very smart girl so it makes it fun to read to her! Notice her smile? If you ask her to give a cheese smile this is what you will get!

Ya know these pictures are reminding me that I am getting older fast! So I think that will be all for now!

Sarah's Got A New Bag!

Isn't This bag so cute? And again it is completely reversible!
I had so much fun making the bag for my friend last night that I had o make one for myself this morning. I was having a hard time sleeping so at 5 am this morning I was starting this new bag! It totally fits for where I live because the cream color print has pineapple on it and when I want to feel less Islandy I can turn it around to the blue tapestry side. This bag reminds me a little of Mary Poppins because it has the tapestry on one side that makes me think of a carpet bag! To bad I am not practically perfect in every way, but I do think this bag might be! With 5 pockets on the inside and one on the outside for a cell phone (Or vise versa) you can hold lots of stuff in a some what organized manner!
Well that's it for now!

My Friend Jennifer and her Family.

This is Jennifer and her family. Her husband Jon and their kids Brianna, Josh, Gabriel, Caleb, Mariah, and Aliyah. She is now due with her 7th child in January. Jennifer is one of my best friends and she is a great person in general, Her faith in God is greater than I have seen in most people. This last year she has been facing the fact that her mom may not be here to see her new baby be born due to cancer that she has, now it looks like her mom is going to be here for the baby because she seems to be doing better, But the reason for me blogging about her now is that she is facing another challenge. She found out that her baby that is due in January has many severe health problems and it looks like he may not live very long after birth. Jennifer knows that God has a plan in all of this and we are all praying that maybe God will do a miracle.

So all that to ask anyone who reads this to please pray for my friend and her family and the things they are going through. Pray that God gives them strength in this time and that God would show me how to be a good friend to her.

If anyone ha any positive stories about trisomy 18 please feel free to send them to me so I can share them with Jen. Thanks.

I made this for a friend! And I love it!!

Oh My Goodness I LOVE this Bag!
Yes I made it, and if I hadn't stared out making it for a friend I would so be keeping it! It is completely reversible and is made with corduroy on one side and cotton blend on the other, and then dressed up with metal handles! Did I say I love it? I only hope my friend likes it as much as I do and if not well I guess I will just have to keep it!

I like to make things!

Don't adjust your screen. They really are that color! I like bright things. The blue blanket I started when I first got pregnant and thought maybe it would be a boy, Then we found out it will be a girl so the pink and green blanket came next. My husband and girls all say that this one reminds them of a watermelon. Anyway, I am working on another one already, I have quite a few friend having babies at about the same time as am so I need to keep busy and hopefully be able to give each one a blanket for a gift.

What do you like to make?

Creative at Home!

One thing I love about homeschooling is the opportunity to be more creative when ever we want. Today Courtney decided to make Coral a grass Hula skirt. I think it turned out so cute that I wanted to write about it. Now if I was in a school or away from home she would not have had the time to do this or even to think about doing this. And the fact that I didn't have to give her the idea is even better! I didn't even get to help! I love being crafty and I love that this is passed on to my kids.

So for anyone who wants to make a grass skirt here is how:

Take a bunch of raffia and a long strip of fabric that will fit around you or the person you are making the skirt for, then tie the raffia to the strip. Courtney actually made a loop and pulled the raffia through the hoop onto the fabric for a cleaner look. repeat until you have your desired amount of grass on your skirt! and that is all there is to it.

Have fun making your skirt!

My beautiful red head!

My 2nd born daughter Got her braces last week. She was excited at first but when the time came to put them on, she got nervous and cried. As a mom my heart broke for her, but knowing it is the best for her we continued! I myself had braces for almost 4 years or was it 5? I cant remember w moved alot during that time. But I was an adult and it didn't effect me as much as it might a young lady. Anyway Her dad and I along with many others told her how cute she really looked with them on and things have settled down, she is now happy with them on and is working on learning to talk with the strange appliance they call a mara in her mouth.

My how time flies, I cant believe we are at this stage already!
Enjoy your kids while you can!

She let me make her one!

Here she is, Candice let me make a skirt for her! This turned out just as it was supposed to! This is how Corals skirt was to look, but didn't. I found it is easier to make a pattern bigger than it is to make it smaller!
It's not perfect, because I am not perfect. But I do think it is very cute and am happy I was able to do it. As for candie she says she is going to wear it to church tomorrow!

Sewing Fun!

Well I have been busy today! This is an example of a bag that my girls and I are making with some friends from a homeschooling group to send to the ladies in Cambodia, Africa.( I hope I spelled that right?) But this bag I made today is for Grandma Jean, she loves Batiks fabric so I used some that I have and made it for her! this bag is special because it comes with large pocket and lots of them, 5 to be exact! Anyway I hope she likes it!
Now this here is quite the story! I was trying to follow a pattern that I saw on my friend Randi's blog that she got from another persons blogg. Anyway I tried to make it small enough for coral but ended up making it the size that would fit my baby not born yet! ANYWAY! With some time and frustration I made it long enough to fit Coral and I think it turned out really cute!
I think I finally have the sewing bug again. I tried to talk my older girls into letting me make them a skirt like this but they refused, ALOT!! But they did pick out another pattern for me to make for them, I think that I will just be adding some length and make the straps a little thicker or maybe alot of length and massive straps! I don't know we will see how it all turns out!

Growing up and also starting over!

Well its true my girls are growing up! I tried to stop them but this is one thing they just wont listen to me about! Courtney was helping caitlin with her sewing project the other night and the lack of questions coming my way was leaving me feeling less needed. I cant believe how fast time goes by..
I mean just a short time ago this was my first baby and now she is a beautiful young lady...
But in light of this we have been blessed with another "little" one, and although I still have some time with the "older" ones my job is not yet close to being done and with another one coming in January it gives my mommy heart much joy! So for now we are starting over with the things of "little ones" like potty training, I am hoping Coral will be trained before Chloe comes in January, so far it looks good. Coral is a Little more than half way there!

I SO ENJOY MY KIDS!!

Summer isn't really over, Is it?

I am for sure having a problem with the fact that summer is ending and I have started school for the next year! It is easy for me to give in and take a beach day with friends still who have not yet stated school. But I find the time spent with friends much needed and valuable!
Last week we went to the beach with some friends and the kids found a sand crab after digging a large hole in the sand. Here Courtney is holding that crab. Science right? so we did some school!

Here Candice and Kiana are sharing a tube on their way out to the water, this shows coordination, sharing and talent, I would call this social skills and physical education, Can I get some one to agree with me please? PLEASE!!
Here candice gives me a smile for a picture on the shoreline.

and here are Caitlin and Coral just being cute!

Now I need to tell you that at the beach that day we were told that a tiger shark was in the water in the shallows. He was probably looking for a turtle to eat. But we stayed mainly because the place we were at was coved in and there was no way for the shark to get to us! we had a great day and we spent lots of time with friends. my kids went home with the gift of a sun burn and so we used that to talk about the importance of reapplying sunblock!(more education!!)

I do love living in Hawaii and am looking forward to more educational days, even if it means hitting the books more!

Ready To Bloom!

We are ready to bloom!

Today is our first day of school! I do have to tell you that I am not all the way prepared but the fact that I can stay in my p.j's to teach my kids if I so choose helps me not to worry so much! Just kidding. We have everything we need to get going this year and I am very excited! We have some adjusting to do with Coral, now able to get into everything she can possibly see ( and she does get into everything.) and a new baby coming in January, it will take some getting organized and for anyone who knows me knows that is not my best subject so to speak! But I am confident that this year I am already more organized than last year and ready for anything that can come our way, and besides I have a wonderful support team, God, My husband, My kids and great friends! What more could you need? Well I gotta go my kids are ready to start, and I need to find Coral,I wonder what she is learning right at this moment?

Some of the Curriculum I will be using this year:

Math u see for all the girls.

Life Pac language

Abeka Literature

Bob Jones readers

and putting together my own unit studies in History and science.

also for hand writing the girls will be copying Rules Of Civility by George Washington

along with alot of other fun stuff!

Happy Homeschooling!
